Light Gauge & Timber Roofing

Overview

What We Deliver

A roof is only as good as the structure beneath it. SMAF's roofing division designs and installs both light gauge steel (LGS) and traditional timber roof systems — matching each to the span, pitch, budget, and aesthetic the project demands. We handle the full roofing package: rafters and trusses, purlins, underlay or block-board decking, waterproofing membranes, and the final roof cover — whether that is brick tile, concrete tile, asphalt shingles (Tegola Canadese), stone-coated metal, or IT4/IT5 sheeting. We also take on renovations and re-roofing, including partial demolition of failed or damaged roofs, structural repairs to rafters and purlins, and full modern re-designs. Recent projects range from 72-unit mass housing roofing to industrial roofs for water purification and packaging plants, cottage renovations in Nairobi, and LGS roofs finished with brick tile.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you install both light gauge steel and timber roofs?

Yes. We install and renovate both systems. Light gauge steel is lighter, termite-proof, and dimensionally more accurate; timber is often chosen for its traditional feel and lower upfront cost. We advise on the best fit for your span, pitch, and budget.

What types of roof cover can you install?

Brick tile, concrete tile, stone-coated metal, asphalt shingles (Tegola Canadese and similar), IT4 and IT5 sheeting, box profile, and traditional clay or slate tiles. We also install all associated flashings, ridges, gutters, and downpipes.

Do you handle roof renovations and re-roofing?

Yes. We take on everything from partial demolition of damaged or failed roofs to structural repairs on rafters and purlins, refixing purlins, replacing underlay, re-waterproofing, and installing new roof cover.

What waterproofing systems do you use?

We install APP and SBS torch-on membranes, self-adhesive membranes, and liquid-applied systems — matched to the roof pitch, substrate, and cover. For tile roofs, we combine underlay with membrane waterproofing for full protection.

Can you supply ceilings as part of the roofing work?

Yes. We install suspended and direct-fix ceilings — hessian, gypsum, PVC, and fibre cement — including all framing, boarding, and finish.

What size roofing projects do you take on?

From single residential homes and cottage renovations to 72-unit mass housing developments and industrial roofing for factories and processing plants. We have delivered all of these across Kenya.
